App Tabs FAQ

 
 

Slates Tab

Access all the slates in your account, without scanning, and without being right next to your assets.

Search All Slates

  • Tap the Slates tab

To Search all slates in account

  • Scroll through the slates to search
    • To find the slate quickly from a long list, try using "Filter Fields"  & type the field you are looking for
  • Tap on the Slate Name to Open
 

History Tab

Access recently viewed or scanned slates.

Open Recently Viewed/Scanned Slates

  • Tap the History tab

Browse Recently Scanned  slates in account

  • Tap the Scanned switch at the top of the screen
  • Browse the Recently Scanned  slates
    • To find the slate quickly from a long list, try using "Filter Fields"  & type the field you are looking for
  • Tap on the Slate Name  to Open

Browse Recently Viewed  slates in account

  • Tap the Viewed switch at the top of the screen
  • Browse the Recently Viewed  slates
  • Scroll through the slates to search
    • To find the slate quickly from a long list, try using "Filter Fields"  & type the field you are looking for

Scan Slates Tab

Learn how to scan slates with your camera and import Slates from photos

Scan Slates with Camera

  • Tap the Scan tab

To Scan Slate with Camera

  • Center the Slate/QR Code in the center of the window
    • To scan from front camera, tap the Switch icon
    • To use Flash, tap the Flash icon
  • Slate will open automatically

Scan Slates from Photo

  • Tap the Scan tab

To Scan Slate from Photo

  • Tap the Photos icon
  • Select the photo with Slate/QR Code
  • Slate will open automatically
 

Favorites Tab

Save frequently used slates. Learn how to add/remove slates from your favorites list.

Add/Remove Slates from Favorites List

  • Tap the Favorites tab
  • Browse slates added to "Favorites"  list

To Add to Favorites List

  • Open Slate to add to favorite list
  • Tap the Heart icon (turns to filled Heart icon)

To Remove from Favorites List

  • Open Slate to remove from favorite list
  • Tap the Heart icon (turns to empty Heart icon)
 

Profile Tab

Learn how to access your profile information (what SlatePages uses to identify you in the app), change contact info (phone & email), change your password, manage accounts added to profile

Change Contact Information

  • Tap the Profile tab

To Change Contact Info

  • Tap the Edit Profile Link
  • Edit Email Address in "Email"  field
  • Edit Phone in "Phone"  field
  • Tap Update Profile button to save
    • To Cancel,  press the Close icon

To Edit Name Info

  • Tap the Edit Profile Link
  • Edit Name in "Name"  field
  • Edit Display Name in "Display Name"  field (how others will see you in SlatePages)
  • Tap Update Profile button to save
    • To Cancel,  press the Close icon

Change Profile Password

  • Tap the Profile tab

To Change your Password

  • Tap the Edit Profile Link
  • Enter Current Password in "Current Password"  field
  • Enter New Password in "New Password"  field
  • Enter Confirm New Password in "Confirm New Password"  field
  • Tap Update Password button to save
    • To Cancel,  press the Close icon

Add/Remove Account from Profile

  • Tap the Profile tab

Open Manage Accounts

  • Tap the Manage Accounts button

To Add Account to Profile

  • Open "Manage Accounts"  (see Open Manage Accounts)
    • Alternatively, tap the Current Account icon (top left corner of screen)
  • Tap the Add Account Icon
  • Enter the Authorization Code (provided by DataLinQr after purchase of slates or setting up a Pilot Program)

To Remove Account from Profile

  • Open "Manage Accounts"  (see Open Manage Accounts)
  • Tap the Account Name to remove
  • Tap Remove from Profile link
    • To Cancel,  tap Cancel link
  • Tap Remove from Profile link again to confirm
    • To Cancel,  tap Cancel link

Edit Slates FAQ

 

Open/Edit Slates

Learn all the ways you can open/view slates, edit field contents.

Open Slates

To Open a Slate

  • Tap the Slates History or Favorites tabs to locate your slate within the app (see App Tabs FAQ for more info)
  • Alternatively,  use the Scan Tab to scan your slate (see App Tabs FAQ for more info)
  • Tap on the Slate Name  to open

To Close a Slate

  • Swipe down the top of the screen from the Swipe icon

Edit Field Contents

  • Open a slate (see Open Slates for more info)
  • Tap on the Slate Name  to open

To Make a Single Edit

  • Tap the field to edit
  • Tap the Edit option
  • Make changes to field contents
  • Tap the Checkmark to save

To Make Multiple Edits (Rapid Edit Mode)

  • To Edit Multiple Fields, tap the Rapid Edit icon (top right corner of slate)
  • Tap the field to edit
  • Make changes to field contents
  • Tap the Checkmark to save (Repeat as Necessary)
  • To Disable Rapid Edit Mode, Tap the Rapid Edit icon again
 

Configure Slate

Enable Configuration mode to edit field options

Enable Configure Slate

  • Open a slate (see Open Slates for more info)
  • Tap on the Slate Name  to open
  • Tap the Configure Slate icon
    • To Cancel, tap the Cancel icon
 

Edit Field Options

Learn how to edit field options in Configuration Mode (add/remove fields, rearrange field order, and rename field titles. Create Templates, Edit Templates, and add a template to an existing slate)

Rename Field Title & Edit Field Options

To Rename a Field Title (does not change the contents)

  • Enable Configuration Slate (see Enable Configure Slate for more info)
  • Tap on the Field Title  to edit
  • Make edit
    • To Cancel, tap the Back icon
  • Tap the Checkmark to save
    • To Cancel, tap the Cancel icon

To Edit Field Options (does not change the contents)

  • Enable Configuration Slate (see Enable Configure Slate for more info)
  • Tap on the Field Title  to edit
  • Enable/Edit any Options (if available)
    • To Cancel, tap the Back icon
  • Tap the Checkmark to save
    • To Cancel, tap the Cancel icon

Rearrange Field Order

To Rearrange field Order

  • Enable Configuration Slate (see Enable Configure Slate for more info)
  • Click & Drag the Move icon up & down to reposition field on slate (repeat as necessary)
    • Note: this does NOT change other slates with the same template (i.e. NOT a batch edit)
  • Tap the Checkmark to save

Add Fields

To Add Fields

  • Enable Configuration Slate (see Enable Configure Slate for more info)
  • Tap the Add Field button (bottom of screen)
    • Note: this does NOT change other slates with the same template (i.e. NOT a batch edit)

Select Fields to Add

  • Select the field from the list of available Field Types (see Field Types for more info)_
  • Enter the Field Title in the "Field Title"  field
  • Enable/Edit any Options (if available)
    • To Cancel, tap the Back icon
  • Tap the Checkmark to add field

Remove Fields

To Remove Fields

  • Enable Configuration Slate (see Enable Configure Slate for more info)
  • Click & Drag the Move icon right-to-left to remove slate (repeat as necessary)
    • Note: this does NOT change other slates with the same template (i.e. NOT a batch edit)
    • To Cancel, tap the Cancel icon
  • Tap the Checkmark to save
    • To Cancel, tap the Cancel icon

Add Fields From Template

To Add Fields from Template (Adds template to end of existing fields - Does not overwrite)

  • Enable Configuration Slate (see Enable Configure Slate for more info)
  • Tap the Add Fields From Template button (bottom of screen)
  • Select Account to view templates
    • Public Gallery Templates  are available to everyone to use
  • Tap to apply template (template is automatically added after selection)
    • To Cancel, tap the Cancel icon
  • Make any additional changes (order, titles, options, etc.)
  • Tap the Checkmark to save

Create Template

To Create Template

  • Tap the Profile tab
  • Tap the Manage Accounts button
  • Select the Account Name to place the new template
  • Tap the Manage Templates button
  • Tap the Add Template  icon
  • Tap the Configure Template  icon
  • Enter the Template Name in the "Template Name"  field
    • Optional: Enable "Publish in Public Gallery"

Add Fields to Template (Repeat as Necessary)

  • Add Fields (see Add Fields section for more info)
    • Optional: Enable/Edit any Options (if available)
    • To Cancel, tap the Back icon
  • Tap the Checkmark to add New Field

To Complete the Template

  • Tap the Configure Template  Checkmark to save New Template
    • To Cancel & Exit,  tap the Close icon twice, then tap the Back icon twice

Choosing Field Types

 

Basic Field Types

Use different field types to fit your needs. Learn common uses & strategies, and enable options.

Text Field

Text Field - Plain text with short & long options

  • Use any letter/number/symbol without restrictions
  • Useful for multi-use fields that require open flexibility
  • Only allows 32 characters

Options Available

  • Enable "Large Text"  option - Extends character count to 4096 characters
    • Useful for large amounts of text, instructions, & descriptions

Other Options

  • Enable "Show Last Changed"  option - Displays the date/time & user that last changed it
    • Useful for tracking Who/When made the last change

Boolean/Switch Field

Boolean/Switch Field - True/False, Yes/No, On/Off, or Green/Red switch

  • Provides a one-tap answer for simple questions
  • Easy to use in checklists, instructions, or procedures

Options Available

  • Display as True/False, Yes/No, On/Off, or Green/Red
    • Choose the option that best answers your need

Other Options

  • Enable "Show Last Changed"  option - Displays the date/time & user that last changed it
    • Useful for tracking Who/When made the last change

Selector Field

Selector Field - Predefined set of options to choose from

  • Customize the exact choices to choose from
    • Useful to control how answers are submitted
    • Prevents misspellings, errors, or vague entries

Options Available

  • Enter predefined options to select from (repeat as necessary)

Other Options

  • Enable "Show Last Changed"  option - Displays the date/time & user that last changed it
    • Useful for tracking Who/When made the last change

Number Field

Number Field - Integers & decimals (numbers only)

  • Provides an easy Number Pad interface to quick entries
  • Useful to control/exclude letters & symbols
  • Make easy on-site calculations

Options Available

  • Enable "Calculator"  option - Adds a calulator to the number pad
    • Useful for simple on-site calculations
  • Enter increment number  to enable "Increment By"  option - Adds +/- buttons for the increment amount you specify
    • Useful for repetitive one-tap addition or subtraction calculations

Other Options

  • Enable "Show Last Changed"  option - Displays the date/time & user that last changed it
    • Useful for tracking Who/When made the last change

Date/Time Field

Date/Time Field - GPS/Location capture (not tracking) with map capabilities

  • Enter Dates & Times with clock & calendar interface
  • Useful for scheduling, visits, or maintenance

Options Available

  • Enable "Show Time"  option - Adds clock interface to add time
    • Useful for tracking time
  • Enable "Show Now/Today"  button - Adds button to quickly capture the current data/time
    • Useful for capturing timestamps

Other Options

  • Enable "Show Last Changed"  option - Displays the date/time & user that last changed it
    • Useful for tracking Who/When made the last change

Location/GPS Field

Location/GPS Field - Location with map capabilities

  • Captures current location/GPS (not tracking) of assett
  • Can use phone GPS (accuracy is based on phone type, network, & signal)
  • Can manually enter GPS coordinates or address
  • Can Drag & Drop location pin to refine found location

Other Options

  • Enable "Show Last Changed"  option - Displays the date/time & user that last changed it
    • Useful for tracking Who/When made the last change

URL Field - Web link button to webpages, documents, and videos

  • Link to valuable online resources for reference
  • Easy one-tap button to go to link urls
  • Link to anything online: webpages, documents, videos, etc.

Other Options

  • Enable "Show Last Changed"  option - Displays the date/time & user that last changed it
    • Useful for tracking Who/When made the last change

Photo Field

Photo Field - Capture picture with camera or add photo from device

  • Add photos of products, places, documents, peopel, etc.
  • Add photos from your device or library
  • Document current condition, repair, or diagrams
  • Use wherever photos are needed

Other Options

  • Enable "Show Last Changed"  option - Displays the date/time & user that last changed it
    • Useful for tracking Who/When made the last change

Phone Field

Phone Field - Add phone number of contact with support for one-tap calling on phone

  • Provide a phone number to contact for support
  • Useful for one-tap button to call contact on phones
  • Provide contact phone numbers for specific uses (repair, sales, questions)

Other Options

  • Enable "Show Last Changed"  option - Displays the date/time & user that last changed it
    • Useful for tracking Who/When made the last change

Email Field

Email Field - - Add email of contact with support for one-tap emailing on phone/desktop, or SMS messaging on cellphones

  • Provide a email address to message for support
  • Useful for one-tap button to email/message on phones
  • Useful for sending SMS messages from your cellphone
  • Provide contact email addresses for specific uses (repair, sales, questions)

Other Options

  • Enable "Show Last Changed"  option - Displays the date/time & user that last changed it
    • Useful for tracking Who/When made the last change

Advanced Field Types

Learn how to use slates like a modern logbook: log simple text comments in the Journal Field, or create & configure elaborate forms in Record Fields.

Journal Field

Journal Field - Logbook of text entries with user & timestamp

  • Provides entries with user & timestamp
  • Useful for keeping a logbook for comments, notes or journals
  • Open-flexibility & simple one-step setup
  • Logs every entry

  • Enable "Allow Public Editing"  option - Permits anyone public access to add entries

    IMPORTANT

    • Allows anyone to edit - anyone with or without account authorization code, AND anyone with or without the SlatePages App installed
    • Can be edited through any QR Code Reader
    • Useful for allowing public access to submit vandalisism, comments, reviews, questions, maintenance requests, etc.

Record Field

Record Field - Form-style entries with user and timestamp

  • Provides a form-style entry with user & timestamp
  • Opens with default options you setup
  • Useful for checklists, maintenance, procedures, etc.
  • Logs every entry

Configure Record Template

  • Setup the form-style Record Template
  • Define the fields for each record, and the default options for every entry
  • See Configure Record Template for more instructions

Record Field Options

  • Enable "Allow Public Editing"  option - Permits anyone public access to add entries

Other Field Types

More than just collapsible headers to group your fields.

Field Grouping

Field Grouping - Group fields under a header

  • Useful for distinguishing fields with the same title, but for different types (like "Size" for a valve vs. a pump)
  • Collapsible header for quick navigation in slate
  • Group common fields for specific types of things
  • Distinguish between similarly named fields ny the Field Group/Header they are under, to be used in dashboard or export

Learn how to configure record templates to use Record Fields

Configure Record Template

To Add a Record Field

  • Open Slate (see Open Slates for more info)
  • Tap Gear icon to Enable Configuration Mode (see Enable Configure Slate for more info)
  • Tap the Add Field button
  • Tap the Records button to add the record field
    • To Cancel,  keep tapping the icons in the top-left corner until you return to the slate

Name the Record Field

  • Type the name in the "Field Title"  field
    • Optional: Apply any available Record Field  options (see Record Field for more info)
    • To Cancel,  keep tapping the icons in the top-left corner until you return to the slate

To Configure Record Template

  • Tap the Configure Record Template button
    • To Cancel,  keep tapping the icons in the top-left corner until you return to the slate

To Add Fields to Record Template

  • Add fields (Repeat as necessary) (see Add Fields for more info)
  • Tap the Check icon to add each field

To Complete Record Template & Add Record Field to Slate

  • Tap the Check icon to (4) four times Save
